Dear Mr. Hauster, I want to understand it for sure. In winter of 1942 a lot
of people died in Mogilev from the Typhus, hunger and cold, besides the
shootings by the Rumanians. Most of the bodies were put together in mass
graves. Are you referring to those graves? Forgive my English. Asher Turtel

Subject: [Cz-L]Excavation of Mass Grave in Close Vicinity to
Moghilev-Podolsk

Dear Friends,

First of all let me please express my gratitude - doubtlessly in place of
all - to Bruce and Jerome for their outstanding engagement, demonstrated
once more by the new subscribers (Welcome!) in July. Bruce, have a
successful conference and an amazing vacation!

In May I reported on my trip to Moghilev-Podolsk on

http://hauster.blogspot.com/2010/05/die-stadt-mohyliv-podilskyi-das-ghetto.h
tml (German)
http://ehpes.com/blog1/2010/05/26/srul-lichtman-in-moghilev-podolsk/ (Photo
Spread).

I've mentioned the proposed excavation of a mass grave in the close vicinity
of Moghilev-Podolsk. Today I received a mail from Vladimir Kolchanov, my
friend and contact on site, which reads as follows:

"Dear mr. Hauster. It`s Vladimir from Ukraine, town Mogilev-Podolsky
of Vinnitsa region. I`ve seen my friend the teacher of history at the
Economic college. He informed me that the excavation has begun. They
found mass burings. Even the mayor of the town took part in it with the
spade. You remember the place, it`s on the mountain near the settlement
Solnechny, the field where nothing grows. He told me that the
investigation commission was organized to investigate the crime. So
it`s short info from my friend Valeriy Voitovich, the history teacher.
As a deputy he has the room in the manicipuletat (town authority). The
weather is hot these days and continue till the middle of August.
 With the best regards,  Vladimir"

The precise position of the mass grave is marked on a map, displayed on the
above mentioned (German) post. It seems that the hypothesis of Valeriy
Voitovich, the history teacher of Moghilev-Podolsk proves to be true. It's
terrible, but very important at the same time, as up to 25,000 people have
been massacred and buried on site.

Sylvie Reicher Gsell just returned from a trip to Bucharest, Bukovina and
Moghilev-Podolsk. I'm currently preparing additional reports on
Moghilev-Podolsk, but should in the meantime any member of our group
organize a journey to Moghilev-Podolsk in the near future, it would be great
to contact the local representatives in order to get additional data on the
progress of the excavation works and their results.

In this respect, I would be pleased to advise and assist.

Best wishes for now!
