I got quite a start when I saw your pictures in the Picasa collection and left comments on two of the pictures but the system truncated my comments so I'll repeat.

One of the pictures shows Hans Noe, a childhood friend of mine, and another has his brother, Marcel, also referred to as Burschi. They were the sons of our family physician, Dr. Noe.

We left in the spring of '39 and they remained and survived, thank God. They came to New York in the early 1950s. Dr. Noe got a position on Staten Island. Marcel picked up a bug and died very young in the 1950s. Hans was drafted, became an architect, and now ,retired, lives in Garrison, NY.

My aunt, Hilda, her husband Julius Gutmann, and Turi, my cousin, were on the same boat you mentioned which sank off Turkey (without loss of life) and they, too, ended up in Cyprus. I've got a new P.C. which needs some nursing but after I get it in shape, I'll send you a picture of them taken in '43 in the camp on Cyprus. They eventually ended up in Israel.

As you mentioned in 2006, how your mother would have been thrilled to find this site, I'm of her generation and I can assure you that is correct. I know that my mother, who died at 94 in 2001, would also have been thrilled by this.
