Liebe Unbekannte Freunde,
That an article !!!! reading it I fell into a trans, it penetrates my the
deepest feelings of, to me unkonwn city, I left in 1943, too young to know
it. My uncle always called the city: Czernowitz ist keine Stadt, es ist eine
Weltanschaung. I knew of the great people who came to the city -
politicians, Herzel, Jabotinsky, musicians, conductors, Josef Schmidt etc
- but mostly from family stories. I heard the name Paul Anschel as my
cousin's friend and I read (present and past) his works. His death really
underlines the tragedy of a whole generation, a world in it, a city, its
life and death.
The pictures show such decay !!! and I somehow can't find any connection to
those sent by Mimi and all others who visited there. No one can restore the
beauty of bygone days when I lived there and bring back the people who
walked these streets!!! Paul, I don't know whether he meant to, brought
people of culture back to the city and writers can find words to describe it
so wonderfully.
Thank you all who troubled to send this article.
Shavuah Tov and Hag Sameach,
anny
