If someone was not good at doing anything, we said:
"Er ken nisht der katz den shwantz ziebinden"
This makes no sense whatever, because it means: He cannot even tie on the
tail of a cat. I would be amazed if anyone could.
Not only were we not positive, we found it hard to say anything positive
about anyone. For instance: If a woman cleaned her house in the evening, we
said: Wenn werd a shlimesalnetzeh recht? Oif der nacht.
