  Dear all,
Yes, Mimi's story rings quite a few bells. First, Brother Grimm's story
of Frau Holle, who airs her pillow out of the window and snow comes out
of it, not feathers, falling over the earth.
Personally, I still do it as my mother does, airing all the bedding, and
leaving it on the window-sill, and if someone is ill, still opening the
windows to bring fresh air inside (and get rid of the overnight one). I
suppose I am still quite old-fashioned and use feather/downs pillows and
covers. We still have cold winters around here.

My mother too, uses the word Haluschken, it is the Germanized version.
However, we cook it the Romanian way (sarmale), not sweetish but
made with soured cabbage, minced-meat,onions, tomato puree. Always best
the next day or two, certainly all will agree.
Gabriele
