I can only wish that the world read Martin Buber.
While my husband was working for ElAl 1962 - 68 in Germany, except for
terrible nightmares I also had a chance to meet Germans. One of them said to
me: Time has come to forgive and forget. I answered that I could do neither.
He looked at me and said: We paid for our deeds??My answer was: Is the
Wiedergutmachung (restitution) blood money?? Do you think money compensates
that?? I never took nor will I ever take it!!!! ME YOU CAN'T PAY. I NEVER
EVER TOUCHED THAT!!!
On the other hand there were lots of German youngsters doing their
Suehnenarbeit (forgiveness) work in Israel in 1976.The war came. My husband
worked nights I worked days and there were many parents, Germans, who came
to the office asking us to send Telexes to Israel for their children to come
home, they ALL refused!!! That was then.... today???
As our Ambassador to the U.N. said: Were we to have a vote for the creation
of a Jewish State today, I doubt we'd have one!!!! Times change and if
anyone thinks that peace with the Palestinians would solve the Jewish
problem??? boy you're wrong!!!
