In answer to Anny Matar:

It is up to each one of us, whether we can, or want, to forget or forgive,
those who murdered our people.
I personally, am against broad generalizations, whether it is lumping all
people belonging to one nation, ethnic group or one generation together.

The topic of this list is Czernowitz and surroundings. In the face of much
of the recent mail, I would like to remind all, that the volunteers who have
participated in the work-camps to clear the Jewish cemetery of Czernowitz,
of weedy vegetation, have been brought to Czernowitz by two organizations:
SVIT Ukraine and "Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste" of Germany.
SVIT has brought volunteers three years in a row and ASF, has done so for
two years. Among the volunteers of SVIT, there were always a large number of
Germans, Austrians, Ukrainians, and Poles.
The volunteers of ASF were, almost all of them, from Germany.

None of the volunteers were adults during WW2. Except for a very few, they
were born well after WW2. Yet they came to restore a Jewish cemetery, which
has been allowed to almost go to complete ruin, by the the local Jewish
community in Czernowitz, by world Jewry and by us, former Czernowitzers and
descendants of those who are interred in this cemetery.
