Beautiful album. Thank you, Merle.

And thank you for the fantastic work on the cookbook.

And I would also like to say, as one who very rarely contributes to the
discussion, how much I appreciate the posts from all the other members, as
well as all the things this group has accomplished, especially the cemetery,
the cookbook, the plaque, the discussions of Yiddish and Czernowitzer
Deutsch, although these things are obviously not all equal in importance. I
appreciate the sharing of living memory, history, perspectives, and spirit
that takes place nearly every day. I think there must be many other quiet
listserv members who feel the same way.

As the grandson of people who emigrated from Sadagora to the U.S. over a
hundred years ago, I do not feel I have much to contribute to the discussion
of living memory of Czernowitz, but still it is interesting to me. Thanks
to all the people who make this happen, Bruce, Jerome, and all the frequent
and occasional writers such as Hardy, Mimi, Arthur (thanks for sharing your
childhood recollections), Frieda, Andy, Charles, Hedwig, Eduard & Gabrielle,
Edgar (thanks for all the documents! -- I found a listing for Focke, my
g-grandmother's name), Cornel, Joanna, Jerry, Marianne, Eytan, Jessica,
Anny, Fred, I could go on, of course.... in short everyone who writes.

Arthur, you ask why some of the people do not participate in the discussion.
There may be many reasons: busy with family and work, nothing to say on the
subject, someone else said it first, maybe the thing one wishes to say is
not appropriate for the list (political, off topic, etc.), online shyness,
or some other reason. This is simply the way it is in all online
communities. I work for the U.S. State Department, which is interested in
using new media in outreach to foreign publics, and I have heard from
knowledgeable people at State that the active members of any online
community will be only a small percentage of the membership. (No surprise
here.) You may have only 3% or 5% of the members actively contributing and
that may not change as long as your community is open. Another larger
percent (but less than half) will read and absorb the discussion, and yet
another large percentage will only occasionally or even never read or use
the information. (For example, a Facebook group with members who never
visit the group's page.) Maybe this is a little off-topic, so I will leave
it there. This group is quite fortunate to have such an active group of
contributors who keep the discussion alive and draw others in, which
enriches us all.
