  Dear Merle and Jerome,
Looking at the photographs I remembered the last scene in "Schindler's
List" and thought how good that Hitler's plan did not totally work out,
and that there is the miracle of survivers and their descendants all
over the world, and how good that quite a few come from little Czernowitz.
A great idea to present each one individually with their photographs, a
big thank you to both of you. Let's hope that these photos will be an
incentive for those who didn't participate until now in our discussions
to become active.

Dear Cornel and all,
Martin Pollack's book appeared some years ago, indeed well written, we
just got a card from him telling us he is coming to Berlin soon. What
is interesting too, is that his father was a big Nazi criminal, which
Pollack found out when he grew up. It was a great shock for him and he
wrote a book about it, "Der Tote im Bunker" (The dead man in the
bunker). He later changed his name which is understandable. Pollack, an
Austrian, is a nice, gentle man, and recently he received a literary
prize from the Kulturforum Östliches Europa, an institute which deals
with the German cultural heritage of Eastern Europe. This institute has
organized in the past a several exhibitions and conferences about
Czernowitz in all its facets. Marianne Hirsch and Leo, Martin Pollack,
were among the participants in an exhibition/ conference in Potsdam,
where the institute is located.
