Dale's supposition that his family might have originated in the Ottoman
Empire, makes perfect sense. The Bukovina was part of the Ottoman empire and
when it became part of Austria-Hungary and at almost the same time, the Jews
were given more equitable rights, it would have been an attractive place for
Ottoman Jews to settle in.
In the early 19th century, Sadagora was almost as large and important as
Czernowitz and possibly the economic opportunities were better.
