In 2005, Sylvie Gsell and I went to visit the "Museum of the Art and
History of the Jews", in Paris. We found in their collection two
tombstones from Czernowitz, ca. 1800. They must have come from the
old cemetery in Czernowitz. One was "Jehuda ben Jehuda", and the
other possibly read "Chaya bat Meir Chaim." I have no idea how this
museum acquired these tombstones. So, I wrote to the Museum for
photos and information about these two stones, but they never
responded. They also had one tombstone from Siret, and two unique
photos of old synagogues from Czernowitz, pre-war.
