In the little towns and hamlets of mid - age Europe , where the Jews
were on a continuous chase,
massacred and driven out , there was a legend of the
Eternal Jew, also known as the Wandering Jew.
In Christian faith this is a legendary curse inflicted onto the Jews as a
punishment for their participacion in Jesus' crucifiction.
Not to find rest until the second coming.
On our way from western Europe we were all Wandering Jews .
In the little walled-in towns the rumor would go : "The Ewige Jud'
has been sighted near the town wall .
The town watchmen were put on alarm trying
to chase him away ,not to let him in.
He was a bad omen, the harvest would fail, the plague would come.
He would steal little children .
They took their pitchforks and sickles and made it for the town gate.
Sometimes there was a bag- carrying Jew there.
He was driven away if he was lucky.
On and on he went ,to the East , looking for a place to
settle.
Driven away from everywhere.
Then , finally , he reached the banks of the Prut.
