I am frankly puzzled by the question about our origins. Like many of you I
have spent over 30 hours pouring over Czernowitz LDS reels; probably a dozen
or more. While I have trained myself to scan quickly looking for names that
are relevant to me, I frequently take the time to read many others,
especially marriage records. This is by no means a scholarly undertaking but
after reading a few hundred marriage registrations as well as birth and
deaths from circa 1880 to the early 1900's, it is very obvious that many
Czernowitzers came from eastern Galicia or are descendents of parents from
eastern Galicia. Quite a few came from further west, Lemberg, even Krakow.
My own grandparents are from Eastern Galicia: Snyatyn, Horodenka, Kudrynce,
Uscie Biscupie.
