Since 1973, the United States National Park Service has recorded 1,900
interviews with people who entered the U.S. through Ellis Island.
1,700 of these oral histories are now available on Ancestry.com.
Although Ancestry is a subscription website, the recordings can be
searched and played free at
<http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=2142> .

See, for example, interviews with Michael Haspel from Czernowitz
(indexed as Chernowitz), who came to the U.S. in 1920, and Harry
Laufer from Zadowa, Bukovina (indexed as Radua), who arrived in 1921.

The Oral History Program continues to search for surviving Ellis
Island immigrants to interview. For more information, see
