"Und wenn sie nicht gestorben sind dann leben sie noch heute"
We lived on German tales , and all Grimm tales end with the
very old saying :
" If they have not died since, they must be living today " .
This is a very old german saying and comes from the German folklore.
It was evening and we sat by the fire in the stove , the tale was of
german forests
and Rumpelstiltzchen, or Dornroeschen or Schneewittchen and other
weird stories , and mother closed the book and said :
" Und wenn sie nicht gestorben sind...."
And we went to sleep breaking our head : " Have they died or have they
not ?"
