Under Soviet rule amenities were hard to get.
Even state factories couldnt get the necessary maintenance equipment.
So you waited in line, sometimes months, or you got it " blat".
" Blat " you got your travel ticket, gas for your car , oil for your
salad or tickets for the football match .
Things that would take months , you got right away.
All you needed was money and the right connection.
" Mishka what do you do tonight ?"
" I go to see the Moyseev Ballet . I got two tickets Blat."
Russian underworld slang.
