Dear Hardy,

most likely it is what the cemetery administration promised: to cut the rottened old trees. It is good to do so. Branches of those trees could break down, damage tombstones or injure visitors. What makes me nervous is the smoke in the background. It may indicate that they burn the remainigs of the trees at the cemetery. This would be not very wise as it may damage the stones as well. We will not know before spring what realy happened.

Events like this are one of the reasons why SVIT Ukraine wished to have a long time volunteer in Czernowitz. Somebody who would watch and intervene. From May on somebody - Karolina - will be there and things could improve.
