Czernowitzers... This from Roberta Grossman. There was a thread some
time ago about the Bukovina roots of Hava Nagila, was there not? Anyway,
I looked at the film clip and thought it well done. If you can help her,
her email is in the Cc: line and below.

Hello!

I am a filmmaker making a film about the Jewish standard Hava Nagila,
which, as you probably know, began as a nigun from the Sadigora Court in
Ukraine.

In my research about Sadigora, I have come upon your group. I¹m hoping
thatI might be able to post an email on your list serve asking for
advice for the film which is called Hava Nagila: What Is It?

My last film, Blessed Is the Match: The Life and Death of Hannah Senesh,
was shortlisted for Best Documentary Feature by the Academy of Motion
Pictures, won the audience award at thirteen film festivals, was
broadcast on PBS in April 2010, and nominated for a Primetime Emmy.

Hava Nagila: What Is It? will explore the history, mystery and meaning
of one of the most frequently recorded and performed standards of all
time.

What started out with a simple desire to discover the origins of the
song, has led to a surprisingly deep and fascinating story. In following
the long, strange journey of Hava Nagila, the film will illuminate 100
years of Jewish history, culture and spirituality.

You can see a clip for the film at http://www.havanagilamovie.com

The questions I¹d like to pose to the group include:

* Does anyone know which Sadigora Rebbe was the ³composer² of the nigun
that became Hava Nagila?
* Does anyone have pictures or film footage of Sadigora before the war
that they may be willing to share for inclusion in the film?
* Does anyone have advice for me about traveling to Sadigora, including
a possible translator/guide?
* Does anyone have connections to the new Hassidic Center in Sadigora?

Thanks very much and best regards,

Roberta

P.S. I am attaching an article about the film from the Jerusalem Post.
