I was not born in Czernowitz, but visited there a lot and spent 1940-45 there. I was eight when we moved there from Lipcani, Bessarabia (having been disposessed of everything by the Soviets) and left when I was 13. That was enough time for the City to work itself into my blood and bones and leave me nostalgic forever

Asher, yes, you definitely were too young to remember anything.
But once born in Czernowitz, the town enters your system, whether you like it or not. Of course it also has a lot to od with your parents' attitude, who were Czernowitzers.
Czernowitz is not only a native city, it's a way of life. As proof you see the many people who are connected to it and never set a foot there!
Does for instance a man who was born in, say, Berlin, who had a grandfather or an uncle or whoever else born in London keep on dreaming about London like we do about Czernowitz? I doubt it.
