Writing from memory.
First you write of things you remember.
Or think you remember. Memory plays tricks on you.
Stories you hear , become your story. Involuntarily.
To fill in missing facts you write on what must have been.
Then comes what what should have been.
After all it is your story .
After a time you also believe it is authentic.
PS: Historic dates you use, check on the web.
Wrong dates make your story shaky.

Dear Lydia,
Let me ask you, don’t you remember your first day of school?
Wouldn’t you remember your first suit after returning from the camps in
Transnistria and wearing shmates? The tailor hiding in his closet because he
did not have your suit ready for a fitting. Also your first pair of
“bokantschen” shoes.
The only thing that I did not remember was the name of the cinema where I
saw the Russian version of “Romeo and Juliet”. I asked Avraham Kogan and he
told me that the name was the Apollo.
At the time, I did not know that the movie was Romeo and Juliet, only years
later when I saw the Hollywood version I remembered that the story sounded
familiar.
It looks like that you have not read my previous and earlier recollections;
you can find them in EHPES:
