Reading your school memories it really sounds terrible and that after the
nightmare of Transnistria!!! I really feel sad in retrospect. By the way,
milk will remove ink stains - not that one uses pens very much any longer /
Personal letters and the mailboxes are rarely used except for signing
papers. Thinking about it, so many people lose their jobs and stamps are
used by collectors only,I guess.
As for thick copybooks made of recycled paper, I guess, we used as
"Schmierpapier". In some subjects we had to follow the teachers and write
down every word the teachers said because we had to answer, in our tests,
exactly the words they used. At home we had to copy it into proper copybooks
and these were checked ad hock by the teacher. My God the poems!!! 3-4 pages
long we had to learn by heart too in Rumanian and German and declaim them in
front of the class. My first year of teaching I trembled just as I did
standing by the blackboard reciting. Nightmares
Memories!!!
