Dear Anny, Anny and Jerome,

As the saying goes, 'you can't go back'. Yes, you can go 'there' but expecting
things to be the same as they were in one's memories is not realistic. Still,
reading those accounts of list members gives us a pretty good idea of the richness
of Jewish life in Czernowitz and in Bukovina before the Holocaust - a treasure.

  How right, I think you are, those who don't want to see the city today. I never went back but my cousin's son David went. He wrote to me about preparing the trip and that broke "the shell of my past, years of silence" but I wouldn't like to see it today - it is NOT the city I remember - and certainly not the people. Those of us who lived there who are still here to tell the tale can be witness to the cemetery, as you say. Our stories are NOT invented,at least not mine, they come from my heart and lay buried for 60 odd years. Do built your house, Jerome and Merle on bitter sweet memories of those of us who tell their tales.
