Regarding Popovici and Calotescu permits. The Calotescu permits were generally respected, except for isolated cases, like my family. My grandfather had a Calotescu permit, he "worked' in his mill in the Wassergasse (Str. Calugareni). He decided to stop working, when he found out that the new owner was a decent person, who promised to return his mill after the German defeat. Since my grandfather had to surrender his permit, he was slated for deportatioon. They came and took my parents and myself, in spite of the fact that my father had a valid Calotescu (RPL) permit. The excuse," it says here B. Schreiber cu familia" (with family), so we went along.
Popovici permits holders issued in 1941, were deported in June 1942, of course there were those who escaped. We were deported on June 28-th, which was the last deportation from Cz. These are the facts as I recall, it could be that I am wrong concerning the date at which the Popovici permits were issued. At any rate , I agree with Berti, Popovici was a Mensch and did not profit from our misery.Gerhard Schreiber
