Cornel,

I don't know what kind of military unit was stationed there in 1941,
but it was a "headquarters plus barracks plus garages" compound (it
occupied an entire block - several buildings and a large enclosed
courtyard - and was used in this capacity until the early 1990-ies).
The ghetto boundary description refers to this compound.
