Keep your hats on. Celebrations would be premature. All I did was send out a press release and a couple of newspapers in Romania picked it up. My release stated that I would like to get Hoffman for the principal role in the film. The editors decided that was fait accompli.
Hollywood trade journals would have far more responsibility. On casting items they would check with the star's agent to find out if, indeed, the star has been signed. But publicity usually brings some benefits. A promotion minded man once said to a reporter, "I don't care what you say about me as long as you spell my name right." And if we get lucky and do land Dustin Hoffman, he won't play Popovici. He'll play a survivor thanks to Popovici, a man 10 years older than Dusting actually is. But to get media pickup at so early a stage is encouraging. There are a few small items still needed to be done - to finish the screenplay, to get it funded, to line up the cast, to shoot it and edit it, to arrange for distribution, and to stay alive until it is all completed.
The only concrete thing to come out of all this, I learned from Mimi that in Hebrew, "Mazel" is spelled with an "a" - "Mazal" - and this project will need all it can get.
