Hi all ! I am reading a book titled "The Army of Francis Joseph" by
Gunther E. Rothenberg. In relation to Jews the book says "The
Austro-Hungarian Army was almost alone in the prewar European forces in
opening its officer corps to Jews, some of whom, like Feldmarschall Leutnant
Eduard Ritter von Schweitzer, reached high rank." It also states " while
the Jewish population of the Dual Monarchy fluctuated around 5%, over 18% of
the reserve officers were Jewish." I think that all this is reflected in
the Jewish volunteers in the Czernowitz-based 41st "Prinz Eugen" Infantry
Regiment and helps to explain why the Jews referred to it as "Unser
Regiment". Cornel
