When I researched travel option last year I found that the cheapest
flight tickets to Lviv (airport LWO) were via Chicago/Warsaw on Lot
airlines, regardless of where in the US you began your trip. I
suspect that will be the same this year, but you can do a search on
Orbitz.com and you will get all the currently available options, and
you can compare flights to Kiev.
It was also possible to book the Lot flights using miles on Star
Alliance (United, Continental, USAirways), and saver awards were
available when reservations were made in advance for travel in the
spring and fall, which must be "off-season". The Lot connection to
Lviv from Warsaw was decent on an older jet, and the layover and
flight are not too long.
The road connection from Lviv to Czernowitz takes 4-4 1/2 hours, and
is discussed by several members in a separate discussion on the list.
For those traveling through Kiev (IEV), flights to Czernowitz (CWC)
were not available via travel websites like Orbitz or Travelocity,
although this may have changed. These connections had to be booked
separately on Aerosvit (look for the English page on their website).
The flights were cheap, but be careful to note which Kiev airport they
you are going to, as there are two, IEV and KBP, and your
international flight may not be to/from the same airport as the
domestic flight.
