Hello Andy,

I have driven through Romania many time, the last time in 2009. It is a very
beautiful country, some of the roads are fine some have not changed
since 1945. You could also start your drive in Budapest, go through
Transilvania and Maramures and cross the Prislop into Bucovina.
You cannot take a rented car into the Ukraine, but you can leave it in
Suceava and get a taxi driver to take you to Czernowitz. Crossing the border
is quite an experience, the Romanian border guards cause trouble to
Ukrainian drivers and the Ukrainian guards reciprocate. Baksheesh goes back
and forth as it has for hundreds of years maybe with the exception of the
time of the Austrian Empire. (Bring back the Habsburgs?).

Drum bun, dar nu pe cale batute,

Mimi
