I think that is correct, the building in the photo was the Yiddish Theatre.

Can anyone confirm whether I am right that in the 1930s, this was the Scala
Cinema?

I had difficulty using the link and, in case others experience the
same problem, suggest accessing the site first using
www.westernukrainefilm.com, and finding the Chernivtsi photos via the
"Locations" tab.

I also do not recall if Steven Lasky's January 13 request for a photo
of the Yiddish Theater in Czernozitz was ever answered (see the
archives thread for [Cz-L] Nineteen Bukoviners Involved in the Yiddish
Theatre). Others please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the
building that once housed the Yiddish Theater can be seen in the last
picture on the first page of Chernivtsi photos, at the link below. I
do recall the guide saying that the theater building was converted to
residential use and one would no longer recognize from the inside that
this had been once been a vibrant center of Yiddish culture; we
therefore did not attempt to enter.
