The picture is of the Scala Cinema at corner Schillergasse/Althgasse
that was declared to be the Idish theater only in the year 1940/1 when
the Soviets decided to bring several actors, directors etc. from other
parts of the Union (e.g.Leningrad) to the town. One story that went
along with that fact was that, inter alia, different items of the
former cinema disappeared including the beautiful red velvet curtain.

Some ladies, including the General Director's wife later appeared in
red velvet evening gowns.

There might have been some Jewish Theater performances during the
1930th at that place but at least from
1937 (when it was refurnished and modernized) up to the Soviet period
in 1940, the Scala was mainly and on
a daily basis a cinema. You can also read that in Der Tag published
by Edgar Hauster for the years 1932/5.

Also after eliberation in 1944 I think there was a period (how long?)
that the former Scala was the Idish theater.

Also Hedwig might look for the Tomasciukgasse?
