That's an oustanding picture for Aurel Vlaicu's flight over Czernowitz on Sunday, 21.04.1912. There is a large media coverage for this rare event, as we learn from the 23.04.1912 editions of

About 17,000 - 18,000 Visitors attended the air show. The weather conditions were poor, high wind, and so, after a flight of 7 minutes, reaching an altitude of 70 - 90 meters, Aurel Vlaicu had to make an emergency landing on the fields at the north-east of Feldgasse. The audience was disappointed, as they didn't witness the landing on Rennplatz, the entrance fee being considerable.

An amazing story! Hardy, thank you for drawing our attention to it!
