I am curious to know when the Czernowitz born members of the list,
or the parents of the second generation managed to get out of there
(meaning the USSR).
My parents and I left legally in the summer of 1945, either late June,
or early July. At least twice before, during the winter of 1944 - 1945,
we had planned to try to cross the border illegally. Once the peasants,
who were to help us cross, became afraid and would not cross. Once,
my parents, at the last moment, let friends of the family, go in their
stead, because it was urgent for these friends to leave.
