My parents and I were on the second transport that was sent directly to
Cariera de Piatra (Stone Quarry) which was located on the western bank of
the Bug (under Romanian rule). During our stay there there was an action to
transfer the surviving inmates to the Eastern bank (under German rule). A
small group of us succeeded to evade this action and was dispersed later to
various locations. Among them - Ladijin, Tulchin, Kirnasowka, etc. To those
who read German There is a book book by the name " Steinbruch am Bug " by
Isak Weissglas which although not an 100% historical document describes
quite well the events of the 1942 transports and Cariera de Piatra.

In June 1942, there have been three transports. The first took place in the
middle of the night, Sunday, June 7, where 1781 people (on the basis of
previously established lists, which included a total of 4471 names) were
collected on Makkabiplatz. They were transported in cattle cars to Serebria,
near Mogilev.
Most of them were then sent to Ladijin, or to Cariera de piatra, then
Mikhailowka (eastern side of the Bug).
On June 14, also a Sunday, there was another convoy of 1151 people,
including the holders of Popovici authorizations.
Finally, the third convoy took place Sunday, June 28, with 1162 victims.
There is a table of the Regional Police Inspectorate of Cernauti which lists
338 Jews who "unfortunately" escaped "evacuation" of 28 June because they
had managed to hide and that the police do had not found at home!
