Hear! Hear!
Czernowitz is now mount Parnasus.
Did not Czernowitzers always think about "Parnuseh"?
The old German names were better.
Blumengasse, Winzergasse, Rosengasse, Liliengasse,
Weinbergstrasse, Lerchengasse, Weidengasse, made us feel good.
Schiller-Park, Mickiewiczgasse, Romergasse and Stefan Wolf Gasse,
made us proud as well-educated Czernowitzers.
Mircescu, Averescu, Cronicarul Neculce, Mircea Voda and all the rest,
were of absolutely no interest.
Only one street has the same name now as it did under Kaiser Franz
Josef;
Zalocziecki Gasse was changed to str. Besarabiei, but now it is again
Zaloczsiecki ul.
Not named after Dr. Zalocziecki, the best and most respected
physician in Czernowitz
in the 1930ies, but after his family, Ruthenian nobility.
