In my opinion this square, called variously Rudolph Platz, Mehl Platz,
Philharmonia square and Piata Dacia, looks currently far better than it
did
in 1944 - 45 when it was the location for selling and buying "Alte
Schmattes, alte Sachen". Certainly it does so during the day.
Also about the the garden in front of the theatre: variously called
Elisabeth Platz, Piata Alexandria and Theatralna Ploja: it was a sunken
garden, when we lived there. In my family we caslled it "der
Franzoesischer Garten".Does anyone remember it from the 1940ies as a
sunken rose garden?
Hedwig wrote that it was just concrete, but I definitely remember otherwise.
It was my favorite place in all of Czernowitz.
