The Fischplatz was indeed a sunken garden, a very nice one not only roses. I
still remember, in the mid-thirties the garden was totally renovated, the
area thoroughly drained and planted. I do not know why did the municipal
architect decide to have it in a sunken shape.

Regarding the Philharmonia square. During the Ghetto I worked in Cinema
Central, as a painter of movie posters and I remember very well that he
square was quite neglected compared to the present, and obviously not so
clean. No fountains, no flowers, almost a mess....

I do not know if today's Philarmonia Sq is looks better or not.
And I do not really care. A question of taste.
But it surely is not my Czernowitz, the one I remember.
Alte Sachen trading ? A Jewish occupation.
Many made a living out of it. Nothing to be ashamed of.
In Rothenburg a. der T. they did not install colored fountains
in the main square to make it look "better".
But we have no say , at least we have an opinion.
The Fischplatz was a sunken garden since I remember.
       This is since mid thirties.
