As a Mehlplatz specialist (I lived in that house around the corner on
Stefaniegasse 2 entrance), I have two remarks:
The older picture is from the 1960th not OUR time and its drabness has
as much to do with the regime as with the weather.
The bar on the new picture looks indeed nice, but mind you in the
1930th there was a carciuma twenty meters away, I still remember
the specific smell of whine and tuica there. Forgot the name of the
owner, but if also Marcel Spiegler who has a perfect memory can't
remember I can try to look it up in the 1936 directory. Easier than
finding out the name of the present bar owner.
