the buildings on Hardy's picture are still there today. The stores of the
Mehlplatz, which established its ambiance are gone.
I don't know to which carciuma Berti refers, but in the Stefaniegasse. not
far from the Mehlplatz was a wine cellar owned by Schloime Sonnenschein,
where Kosher wine was sold, but Jews also gathered there for drinking and
socializing
