Shalom,
My thanks are sent to those who responded to my question.
- The site related to Spanish civil war is really interesting, but I didn't
find "my" Benyomin Jurgrau there.
- Jurgrau family members were living in Czernowitz, some are buried there,
some are mentioned in census data and address books. This is of course in
addition to those family members who lived in Radautz, Gura-Humurului,
Arbore and other places in Bukovina.
Benyomin Jurgrau lived in Czernowitz indeed. Quoting from a letter from
Iosif Vaisman to Edgar Hauster: "Both Weissman and Jurgrau were important
figures in the Czernowitz communist underground, Weissman was the secretary
of the city committee of the Romanian Communist party, Jurgrau was one of
the leaders of the Communist Youth League".
This morning I've stumbled on this mystery solution:
Years ago I've received a copy of a family tree of one of the Jurgrau family
branches, drawn over a table napkin during a Jurgrau family wedding in
Israel sometime during the 1960s. One of the entries in this tree is Beno
Jurgrau, son of Jacob. Beside his name there are two additional indications:
- digit 0 => indicating he had no children, and;
- the word "Spain" in Hebrew.
Years ago I didn't know what was the meaning of the "Spain" indication, I
ignored it (thought maybe he immigrated to Spain), and actually I forgot
about is. Today I've stumbled upon this napkin again - and the solution is
clear. Beno is Benyomin, and his parents Jacob Jurgrau and Netti nee Merdler
really lived in Czernowitz, according to marriage records of some of their
other children - found in the archive of Suceava by the late Dorin Fraenkel.
I hope this contributes to the general knowledge of the members.
