I wrote my previous message before reading Iosif Vaisman's message,
but now I would like to say one more thing about the apartment buildings
in Czernowitz.
Each apartment building had a ground floor, called "Parterre" and
considered
reasonable to live in. Erster Stock (what we now would call second
floor),
was a very desirable location. The Zweiter Stock was still desirable,
but the Dritter Stock was not and worse of all were the Keller Wohnung,
down in the basement. That is how in the same building could live
both the rich and the poor.
