[Cz-L] small world

Dear Czernowitzers,

This afternoon, Leo, my mother and I went to see Woody Allen's new film "Midnight in Paris" at the Lincoln Plaza Theater in NY. When my mother and I were discussing the film in German afterwards, the man sitting right in front of us turned around and asked: "Where are you from?" "From NY right now," I said, "But originally from Romania, though we are speaking German." "Are you from Bukowina" he asked? "Your accent does not sound German. " When I said yes, he said, "I'm going to Czernowitz on Saturday. I'm part of the list." and then, looking at us more closely, he added: "And, oh, did you write a book? I'm almost finished reading it."

I was a pleasure to meet Stephen Winters and his lovely Czernowitzer parents. It turns out that our mothers both went to the Hoffmann Gymnasium!
As my father might have said, "Ahi!" or, "Only in New York!"

By the way, I recommend the film a great deal,
