Just got back from a week's tour through Italy and laughed at your story!

Lucca, I have another memory of the Blotte. It was an evening when the Blotte was suddenly covered with thin, slippery ice and bitter cold. Mother and I were walking home - mother in a black coat-silver fox collar- green hat gloves bag and all. We felt the slippery down hill ice and mother said" we have to be careful not to slip" and... at that moment she sat on the ground!!! It looked so funny I couldn't stop laughing. After a while I noticed she's still on the ground so I asked :"are you hurt??? " no she answered I AM waiting for you to stop laughing". I felt so ashamed picked her up kisses and apologised but, the picture is as vivid in may mind as tough it were yesterday- 1934 or 5-
  Regards,

the first memory of my childhood is my aunt getting me out by my collar from your mentioned "blotte".
She interfered with my having such a great time, I splashed and rolled around and the way I looked must have frightened her to death. this was in front of my grandfather's house, vis-a-vis the Jiddish theatre.
She carried me, kind of in the air, and dropped me right into the bath tub, clothes and all. Such boundless cruelty!
