Hardy,
Originally his name spelled Prager (it was his mother's maiden name),
but in the mid-1930s he changed it to Pragher, to make it sound less
Jewish. He was already compromised in Nazi's eyes by his affiliation
with Reimann-Schule (one of the top art schools in Berlin where he
taught; the founder, Albert Reimann, and many other faculty were
Jewish) and apparently thought that changing the name would spare him
from further troubles.
