As some of you may know, I am in Chernivtsi now.
Earlier today, I was standing with two of the SVIT Ukraine
volunteers on the steps of city hall. We were speaking English.
An elderly man came out of the building, heard us speaking English
and stopped to tell us that he had been both an English
and German teacher in one of the highschools. Then he told us
that he was a native Czernowitzer. So I told him that I was one too.
So he started speaking Romanian to me. Later, when he found out
that the two volunteers were from Poland, he said that he was Polish
and started speaking Polish to them.

After a while he decided to leave and when he had to navigate
the wet steps, it was raining, he said oy,oy,oy!

Only in Czernowitz!

Mimi
