[Cz-L] Kurt Nachman Obituary

                              Kurt Nachman

               07/12/1924,Czernowitz – 1/10/2011,Toronto

Our group has lost another Czernowitzer oldtimer. Kurt Nachman died last
month after a short illness. He was born in Czernowitz on 7thof December
1924 the youngest son of Dr. Jur. Josef Nachman (1887, Budenitz – 1939
Czernowitz) an Clara Nachman (nee Rosenblat, 1897 Czudin – 1962
Bucharest) He went to primary in Czudin and attended high school at
“Aron Pumnul” in Czernowitz. After time in the Cernauti ghetto he was
send to a forced labor camp in Doaga, Romania. After the war he studied
electrical engineering in Czernowitz and at the Moskowskyi
Energeticheskyi Institut in Moscow. In 1949 he married Bat-Sheva
Derbaremdiker. In 1955 Kurt, Sheiva and their 2 year old son Josef moved
to Bucharest, Romania to join his mother and older brother Manfred. In
Bucharest Kurt worked at IPRS (Institutul de Piese Radio si
Semiconductori) Baneasa and at ISCH (Institutul de Studii si Cercetari
Hidrologice) In 1971 Kurt and his family immigrated to Israel, where he
worked at the Haifa Oil Refineries. A further move took place in 1982,
when the family emigrated to Montreal, Canada where his brother
Manfred , a professor of physics at Montreal University and his family
has settled in in 1972. In Montreal Kurt worked at SNC-Lavalin Company
until 2001.Kurt died as a result of an infection with Legionnaires
disease which he contracted during a trip to Czernowitz and Romania,
which was his first visit to his natal city since he left in 1955.
