What is needed is living generous wealthy donors. I can tell you that I know
many cases of "shtetlech" that achieved very much in heritage conservation
just because there were wealthy generous donors among their people. There
seems to be greater solidarity in smaller communities. I assess the sum
needed as $30000 to max. $50000. The people from ASF and SVIT are really
wonderful people and deserve our gratitude and respect, but there is a limit
to what we can ask from people of this kind. Of course the normal way would
have been if the local Municipality would take responsibility but everybody
familiar with the financial state of the countries in east Europe knows it's
wishful thinking.
