In my eyes "today's" edition of "Der Tag", i. e. 28.09.1933/2011, online available at

is thrilling and most interesting at the same time. Let's see, what happened in Czernowitz, Romania and in the world at the end of September 1933:

500 Polish immigrants, bound for Palestine, are passing Czernowitz by train (p. 2.). Perhaps they intended to board the luxury steamer "Polonia", as offered by Waggon Lits Cook, Herrengasse 1 (p. 3).

ROMANIA: Due to an enormous trade deficit, Romania suspended its external payments, followed by protests and threats of the foreign creditors (p. 1). No intervention by the - unfortunately not yet established - European Union!

WORLD: The trial against the alleged arsonist of the "Reichstag", Marinus van der Lubbe

and others took place in Leipzig (p. 4). We all know, but our ancestors knew as well as we do, that this crime was caused by the Nazis themselves.

During the premiere of the movie "Das hässliche Mädchen", the famous Jewish singer, cabaret artist, actor and comedian Max Hansen

has been pelted with bad eggs (p. 4), or tomatoes, according to Wikipedia. In 1932, Hansen satirised Adolf Hitler as homosexual with his song "War'n Sie schon mal in mich verliebt?" ("Have you ever been in love with me?"), which caused the bitter hate of the Nazis. You'll find the song at the Media Player of "Der Tag - The Day":
