Unfortunately, the description provided by Mr. Abraham Kogan is misleading,
to say the least.
1. The schedule, as printed on the invitation, was: 16:30 - gathering and
snacks; 17:00 - event starts.
2. Nobody can be precise when trying to estimate the actual response for a
free admission event. On previous occasions, the annual ceremony was
conducted in a 200-seats hall, and there was more than 30% vacancy. This
year a 522-seats hall was used, but in my humble opinion - almost 700 people
appeared.
3. The event actually started at about 17:20. Not at 18:30 or 18:00 as may
be deduced from Mr. Kogan's protest.
4. Before this, the organizers announced that the event will be delayed
until everybody will have some place to stand (2nd generation) or sit (1st
generation). The background efforts included bringing dozens of chairs, and
also an attempt to open another hall to which the event would be
live-projected. All of this is not trivial at a few moments' notice, taking
into account a museum environment.
5. I'm somewhat surprised to find that Mr. Kogan does not blame the
organizers a bit regarding Lia Kenig's illness, which made the audience miss
an additional top-quality performance (with Miriam Zohar of course).
I have to emphasize that I was not involved in any way in the organization
of this event, and my connections with the Bukoviners' organization or
Yad-Vashem are very slender.
I also hope this somewhat clarifies the issue, and some people can find in
this another angle to highlight the event itself.
Happy Succoth to everyone
