Dear Anny,
As you noticed, I did put the word "liberated" in quotation marks. In 1940, when the Soviets came in, we were living in Lipcani and within three weeks we were "liberated" of all we possessed and had to flee to Czernowitz where my uncle, out of the goodness of his heart, allowed to live in one room of his apartment. There we all lived in fear of arrest and deportation to Siberia.
However, in 1944, had the Soviets not won, none of us would probably be here today. I think, sooner or later, all of us would have been part of Hitler's final solution.

Frieda dear,
It is so interesting to read the different reactions to the "liberation". Some came from many parts to be liberated but, some of us who had no choice were "liberated" by force.

Hardy speaks of gratitude to the Russians, this might have been so at the second occupation in 44 but certainly NOT 41. Those who followed the Russians in retreat did not have a very gratifying "trip" with them.

I might be a bitch, NO I AM A BITCH, and can't find words of praise for Russians, sorry. The others were not better but then no one considered THEM libertators -did we??_ Shavua Tov,

anny
