My late father found a Ukrainian/Romanian lady who acted as intermediary
with a Romanian military officer who, for a relatively reasonable fee used
to carry money, letters and in some cases also small packages to each of my
two uncles and their wives who were in Moghilev. It worked very well until
mid-1943; we even used to receive confirmation from them, in Hebrew, upon
receipt of the money and packages.

Edgar, as usual, you provide us with interesting and valuable information.

The letter of Christina to Dr. Stern, reminded me that my parents were able,
occasionally to send packages of clothing, as well as letters and money to
our relatives in Moghilev, occasionally we also received letters from them.
This was done through, my father's cousin, Manfred Reifer, who had been
a delegate to the Romanian Parliament and even during the war enjoyed
certain unusual privileges.
I am curious to know, whether anyone knows of other such cases, where it
was possible to send letters, money or packages to Transnistria and if yes,
how it was done.

Mimi
